Are they lightning bugs or fireflies?
To me they were just little live lights that growing up I never thought of as bugs!
In the evenings right after supper my Mom would send us outside with a glass jar (holes poked in the lid) and tell us to find the lightning bugs!
We had an open field right beside our house and it seemed like they were everywhere at just about dusk.
We ran & played and filled our jars with those magical bugs. Just before going in we would set them free so they would be there for us to catch the next night (as my Mom instructed).
I was visiting Ohio with my girls when they were little and we saw them and I told them stories of catching them at night with my sisters and brother.
Recently I made a comment to my girls wondering if they were still around since I haven't seen one in years.

My daughter Rachael who now lives in new York called me last week and said "Mom guess what I saw?"
LIGHTNING BUGS!!!!
Just like with the lightning bugs, fill your heart with sweet times that you can share and remember with the ones you love. They don't have to be big events just summers filled with catching fireflies and memories.
